LA PLATA COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY TO RECEIVE DONATED SOLAR ELECTRIC SYSTEM FROM BLAND SOLAR
(Durango, CO)-  The La Plata County Humane Society is set to receive a 1.5 kilowatt solar electric system donated by Bland Solar.   Travis Zbornik, Durango based Colorado partner of Bland Solar, proposed the donation after touring the humane society facility and adopting a cat.  He and Glenn Bland, owner of Bland Solar, are both “critter motivated” and “pet silly,” he said and after thinking about it, thought donating and installing this photovoltaic (PV) system valued at between $20,000-$25,000 was the best way Bland Solar could help the homeless pets of La Plata County.  “By lowering the humane society’s energy costs, more money will be available to secure the health and comfort of the animals housed at the shelter,” Zbornik said. They’ll be “PV Powered Pets” he said. 

“We are very excited about the opportunity to reduce our energy costs by going solar and very grateful for this donation by Bland Solar. We anticipate an energy savings of around 20% annually,” said Chris Nelson, Director of Animal Services.  

 Bland Solar has been among the industry leaders in solar installation for 25 years.  They will be installing the  PV system at the shelter April 20th and 21th.

Also noteworthy are Mello’s extensive accomplishments as a Greco-Roman Wrestler (Pan American Games Gold Medalist and Olympic Competitor), Coach (1996 USA Wrestling National Coach of the year), and Marine (earned Navy Achievement Medal), and as an Olympic Torch Carrier for the 1984 and 1996 Olympic Games.
